Infographic: Space Invaders Killing Your Productivity?

May 11, 2017 Marcus Varner

With more work to accomplish, often with fewer resources than ever, our productivity is precious. So why does it seem like some individuals in the offices are hellbent on gobbling up that productivity—individuals we refer to as 'Space Invaders'?

And, no, it's not just you. If this smattering of stats on interruptions is to be believed, Space Invaders have launched a full-blown invasion of the office:

  • UC Irvine Study: People spend an average of 11 minutes on a project before they’re interrupted, which then takes 25 minutes on average to recover from.
  • Journal of Experimental Psychology: People's error rates double after interruptions as short as 2.8 seconds; they triple after 4.5 second interruptions.
  • Basex Research: Interruptions cost $588 billion in lost productivity, energy, and satisfaction annually in the U.S. workplace.

So who are these Space Invaders? How can you spot them before they decimate your work effectiveness? To find out, check out our new Space Invaders infographic below.
